RiderPal was born from a simple observation: many ride-hailing drivers in Kenya were struggling to manage their finances effectively. Despite working hard, they found it difficult to track expenses, plan for the future, or save for emergencies.
As an active ride-hailing driver and self-taught software developer, our founder, Mark, experienced these challenges firsthand. After joining the gig economy in August 2024 to supplement his freelance income, he started tracking his own expenses and earnings with Excel. What began as simple record-keeping quickly became too complex as he tried to analyze patterns, calculate profit margins, and plan for vehicle maintenance.
The spreadsheets became unwieldy and time-consuming. Meanwhile, Mark saw fellow drivers working 12-hour days but still struggling to make ends meet—not because they weren't earning enough, but because they lacked accessible tools for financial management. Most were using no tracking system at all or relying on basic notebooks that couldn't provide the insights needed for smart business decisions.
Built single-handedly with modern web technologies, RiderPal is our solution to empower over 100,000 drivers. Since information about success in this field is scarce, RiderPal offers more than just financial tools—it provides a learning experience, equipping drivers with the insights they need to track their finances effectively and build sustainable, profitable ride-hailing businesses across East Africa.
